Over time your IT systems will degenerate with use. An “IT Health-check” or “Network Health-Check” will identify if your systems are running efficiently. If they are found wanting an “IT Tune-up” will increase their productivity and value to the business.

There are a number of things that the “average” user can do to ensure that their systems operate efficiently. We would recommend you try to do at least the following on a regular basis.

  • Run the Clean up utility that comes with many operating systems
  • Use a disk defragmenter regularly (Windows includes a basic one)
  • Try to keep about 20-25% of your hard disk empty
  • Do regular housekeeping and rid yourself of files and e-mail you don’t need
  • Copy seldom used files to a removable device (CD/DVD/Zip Drive)

IT Health-check

IT Tune-up

A Health check will diagnose a number of potential system issues that will have a negative impact on the efficiency of your IT Systems. As well as undertaking all of the checks and fixes associated with a Tune-Up there are a number of other diagnostics which are part of a Health-check.

  • Produce full analysis and report of all software and hardware provided
  • Check all cables and connectors
  • Check all components are inserted, secured and functioning according to specification
  • Check for Viruses, Trojans and Spyware
  • Check all drivers are the latest versions
  • Provide benchmark performance of system

We recommend an annual Health-check for heavily used systems. We also recommend that one is undertaken prior to any major upgrade to ensure that your existing system will not impact the performance of any upgrades.

Just like your car, your IT systems can get clogged-up over time. According to the US National Software Testing Lab simply defragmenting your hard disk as part of a tune-up can provide a 56-81% improvement in performance. This is equivalent to doubling or tripling the speed of your PC’s processor. An IT Tune-Up will address this issue.

  • Remove temporary files
  • Check and optimise Disk Drives
  • Check all settings are correct for optimum performance
  • Check all security updates and patches installed

A typical Tune-up can see performance improvements of over 90% against your PC prior to the Tune-Up. We recommend a tune-up every 6-12 months dependent on usage.

The performance gain from an IT Tune-up can save you the costs of a brand new system!

Network Health-check

Networks and Servers can be effected in just the same way as your desktop PCs and Laptops. Over time their performance may degenerate. This can be even more critical than the degradation of a single PC as this will effect everyone in the business. As well as the checks on Servers made according to the standard IT Health-check the following activities are performed and reported upon

  • Review of network architecture
  • Initial assessment and diagnosis of existing problems
  • Analyse traffic load patterns
  • Check application patterns
  • Assess performance
  • Locate logical/physical network inconsistencies
